Accidents and trauma are the 4th leading cause of death in the United States. |
Massive bleeding from any cause, but mainly from an active shooter or explosive event where a response could be delayed, can result in death. Similar to how the general public learns and performs CPR, the public must learn proper bleeding control techniques, including how to use their hands, dressings, and tourniquets. Victims can quickly die from uncontrolled bleeding, within five to 10 minutes.
However, anyone at the scene can act as an immediate responder and save lives if they know what to do. The Bleeding Control Program supports President Barack Obama’s policy directive for national preparedness (Presidential Policy Directive 8), which targets preparedness as a shared responsibility of the government, the private and nonprofit sectors, and individual citizens.
SOARescue is offering 2 free Bleeding Control Basics (B-Con) courses in the Charlotte area, on March 31st. Come join us to learn vital life-saving skills! We hope that you will never have to use them, but we will ensure you are prepared if you ever have to.
What is B-Con?
The B-Con course is a joint product of the American College
of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and the National Stop the Bleed Initiative. The course is designed to teach the basics of rapid recognition and treatment of life-threatening bleeding. This course is primarily meant for the public and citizens that do not typically fill a first response role. While responders can benefit from this training, our hopes for this day is to provide training to those who may not have funding or opportunities to gain this training elsewhere.
Who is B-Con Meant For?
The Bleeding Control Basic (BCon) Course is designed for individuals who have little or no medical training
but who may be called upon as immediate responders to provide initial trauma care and bleeding control to avictim of traumatic injury prior to the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS) or in an austere environment.
How Long is it?
B-Con Courses typically run 2 to 2.5 Hours
