Al Willimon, recently acquired Fire Equipment Services in Sumter, South Carolina. Under the 28 year ownership of Mr. Tom Garrity, Fire Equipment Services established itself as a manufacturer of top quality fire apparatus. With Mr. Garrity’s in November 2012, the future of the business was in question. Mr. Willimon saw an opportunity to continue the company because of such a strong group of employees as the backbone of FES. “The employees took great pride in their work and believed in the products that they manufactured,” said Willimon.

“First and foremost, my goal for FES is to continue to produce fire apparatus that is known for its quality and attention to detail.”

“First and foremost, my goal for FES is to continue to produce fire apparatus that is known for its quality and attention to detail. Our employees in Sumter, from fabrication, to paint, to electrical, are excited to continue doing what they love… building the finest brush trucks, rescues and tankers around,” said Mr Willimon. Although Mr. Willimon and Mr Garrity serviced the same market, they were not direct competitors. With Safe Industries’ focus on the equipment side and FES’s focus on apparatus, the two business owners occasionally ran into each other. Now with the two companies working in tandem, it provides more of a complete customer experience. “It just makes sense. We are now able to provide the fire service with apparatus, the equipment that goes on the apparatus, and the gear that goes on the firefighter that rides on the apparatus,” said Mr. Willimon. He continued, “Tom Garrity created a great company. We want to continue that legacy and help FES reach its full potential.”

With several orders for skid units, brush trucks, and tankers on the production schedule, it appears he is going to do just that.
