Blaze devastates Morganton furniture plant; lightning suspected as fire's cause

Nearly one-third of the Wright Table Company furniture factory was left in ruin Monday evening after lightning reportedly sparked a fire in the plant's finishing room. According to owner Don Wright, 13 employees were in the building at the time of the blaze. No injuries were reported among the workers, who said they were lucky to be on break when the fire began.

Apex homeowner heard 'large bang' before house caught fire

Lightning strikes are to blame for two house fires in Wake County, Monday night. One of the fires was on Hoboken Court in Apex, where a house was completely destroyed. The fire broke out at approximately 7 p.m. It took firefighters over an hour to control the blaze and eventually put the fire out.

Firefighter's stolen bagpipes replaced in Charlotte

Almost 2 months ago, firefighter Joey Kline found his personal vehicle had been broken in to and his bagpipes gone. "I felt like a piece of me was torn off. I was sick to my stomach," said Kline back in May. Kline went on WBTV and almost begged for his bagpipes back, explaining that whoever stole them would have no use for them.The story made the rounds in social media and 2 weeks a go, a box came to Joey's house.

Jacksonville Man Arrested for Fires That Destroyed Kinston Businesses

A Jacksonville man was arrested for allegedly setting a building he owned on fire, destroying several businesses in downtown Kinston. William Shawn Elliot, 49, was arrested and charged on June 20th with first-degree arson and 4 counts of burning of a building.

Follow-up: Firefighters have a good first day of the Brotherhood Ride

Firefighters from North and South Carolina, including Salisbury Batallion Chief Jay Baker, will be joined by brothers from Florida, as they will cycle over 400 miles in five days to pay tribute as they did a year ago. On July 28, 2011, the Asheville Fire Department (AFD) was called to battle a raging high rise fire in a medical office building. Tragically, Asheville Fire Capt. Jeff Bowen of Rescue Company #3 gave his life searching for possible victims.

Columbia-Richland firefighters now trained to drive ambulances

A year-old training program means 175 Columbia-Richland firefighters now are able to drive ambulances in a life-saving change in policy. In addition, about 20 firefighters have been trained as emergency medical technicians, said Michael Byrd, Richland County director of emergency services. "We feel like that's going to be a big help in stabilizing critical patients at the scene, where they can work with paramedics," he said.

Firefighters Battling Large House Fire In Anderson County

Anderson County firefighters are investigating a house fire that started about 11:30 p.m. Monday at 1201 Trammell Road. Neighbors told 7 On Your Side that a woman had recently been living inside the home, but had since moved out. Although, they added she still had possessions inside the home.

Sun City couple presents statue to Bluffton fire station

The Bluffton Township Fire District's Sun City Station 34 had to settle for a statue of a Dalmation instead of the real thing. As a way to reward the firefighters for their help, a Sun City couple — Judy and Platt Holden — presented the fire station with a statue of a Dalmatian on Monday. "We did this because we were thankful that this tea m saved my husband's life," Judy Holden said.
