The International Auto Extrication Competition (NAVRC) will be held this year, June 8-10, 2011 in Myrtle Beach, SC.  This is the 27th annual NAVRC and the first in South Carolina.   The event is an opportunity for rescue workers to share best practices, strategies and new technology required to save lives.  image

The competition will held in conjunction with the South Carolina State Firefighters' Association’s 106th Annual Conference, and is sanctioned by the Transportation Emergency Rescue Committee (TERC) North America.

Teams come from all over the world for the event and June’s competition is expected to include teams from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Canada and the United States.  At last year’s NAVRC, Sweden and the UK swept the top three spots, with Hampshire, UK taking top honors.  The Hampshire team will be in Myrtle Beach this year to defend their title.

Between 20 and 30 extrication teams are anticipated.  Teams will consist of 6 members which includes 1 Incident Commander, 1 Medic, and 4 Extrication Specialists.

The competition itself is administered in three parts:  3 staged car accident scenarios each with

a timed extrication of a live “patient.”  Teams will not see the wreck until the clock starts.   In the first two scenarios, teams have a 20 minute limit to remove the patient:

  1. Limited Scenario – Teams can only use pneumatic and hand tools to remove the patient.
  2. Unlimited Scenario – Teams can use any tools they need, including hydraulics (jaws, rams, spreaders, etc.).

The third scenario has a 10 minute time limit:

  1. Rapid Scenario – Teams can use any tools they have, with an emphasis on patient care.

NAVRC is still seeking event and entertainment sponsors at all levels and have a limited number of vendor display booths available on site.
